Description
Spilimbergo once again comes alive with the charm of the Renaissance thanks to the ‘Macia’ historical re-enactment.
For four days, the streets of the historic centre are transformed into an evocative early 16th-century setting, featuring traditional crafts, markets, encampments, music, performances and period ceremonies.
The event takes its name from the ‘Macia’, the ancient unit of measurement for the length of fabrics, which is still engraved on a pillar of Palazzo La Loggia in Piazza Duomo and was already in use as far back as 1438.
During the re-enactment, merchants, nobles, knights, craftsmen, musicians and artists bring the daily life of Renaissance Spilimbergo back to life, under the watchful eye of the armigeri, archers and soldiers of the Terra.
Set against the backdrop of the historic market and the large open-air camp, the festivities include archery competitions, palios, flag-waving displays, castle banquets and the evocative parade of the town’s communities, guilds and religious confraternities in honour of the Count.
