Lo “Chat Noir” era un celebre cabaret parigino che ospitava le avanguardie, le arti incoerenti e gli stili più stravaganti a cavallo tra l’Ottocento e il Novecento.
Lo spettacolo ne rievoca l’atmosfera sospesa tra passato e contemporaneità, tra stile e contenuto, il tutto mitigato dall’ironia e dalla leggerezza d’animo proprie dello spirito cabarettistico.
Tra le pieghe di questo mondo emerge una sottotrama oscura: il Gatto Nero, figura simbolica del cabaret, prende vita dal celebre racconto di Edgar Allan Poe.
Frammenti e suggestioni della novella fanno affiorare il terrore tra satire, balli e canti, nell’apparente nonsense dello stile avanguardista, creando un sottile intreccio tra inquietudine e ironia.
