Tarcento
The territory of Tarcento is slightly hilly, nestled on the slopes of the Chiampeon, Stella, and Bernadia mountains, and serves as a gateway between the upper Torre Valley and the foothills of the Julian Prealps. In the early 20th century, it was considered a prized residential area for the Udine hinterland, and the town is known for its Art Nouveau villas, the most important being the villa once owned by the Moretti family and Villa Liruti in Villafredda. Scenic walks can be enjoyed along the banks of the Torre stream, leading to its gorge, or through the villages of Molinis or Coia, where the medieval charm of the Upper Castle and Frangipane Castle can be appreciated. The lively celebration of the Friulian Epiphany still takes place every January 5th and 6th, featuring traditional races with flaming carts and the lighting of the pignarûi, large bonfires whose smoke is carefully analyzed to predict the year's outlook. The summit of Mount Bernadia, with the remains of a fort used during the wars, and the peak of Mount Stella, offering a beautiful view of the valley, are particularly attractive.
