Fishing with Alice II

A genuine fishing boat called Alice II. awaits me at the quay in Via San Vito, in Marano Lagunare . It is the protagonist of this sea adventure. .
Robi, an experienced fisherman, is at the helm. With his wife Joy, he invented a very special fishing-tourism business. .

The crew never exceeds 8 people, so each trip is a unique and unrepeatable experience, customised for tourists. We set off for a pleasant trip out to sea, heading towards the Isola Delle Conchiglie (Shell island) or to Sant’Andrea to bathe far away from the crowded and most popular beaches. But you can also sail to Trieste or Venice, or go up the river Stella, which is the perfect location, among springs and reeds, for those who love birdwatching. .

Among canals and islets, traces of the past appear: fishermen's huts, the ancient homes of the fishermen who once spent most of the year in the lagoon. .
You can also try your hand at sport fishing and throw nets like authentic fishermen. And that's what I want to try today. .
Once on board, I go to the bow and enjoy the spectacular sunset over the lagoon. The warm red hues of the sea are like a picture-postcard and, as I take photos, I discover that the moving white dots are swans, intimidated as we pass by and disturb their peace. .

It is almost dark when we reach the point chosen by Robi and we stop to drop anchor. Then the trammel net is cast into the sea. .
What an amazing evening with a full moon to make everything so spectacular! .

It's time to return to Marano. By now the nets are cast and Robi will lift them up tomorrow morning at dawn and then deliver the catch to Joy, the expert cook, who made the dishes we tasted on board during our trip. .
She uses simple local ingredients in her recipes, skilfully combining them with expertise, passion and her love of the sea to guarantee an experience that will enchant all our senses.
