For all those who enjoy hiking and mountain biking, the Karst is the perfect destination. The explosion of red that covers it for a brief period in autumn is a sight that should be admired at least once. But the Karst has much to offer even in winter. Anyone interested in history will find that the months between December and February are the most suitable for visiting the places of the Great War. The leafless vegetation makes inscriptions and trenches emerge that normally would not be visible. A stroll can be divided between theme parks and other less visited trails that allow you to admire the Karst in its most complete essence.

An immersive experience is the circuit that runs between Monte Cosich and the theme park of Monfalcone. This was the front line from June 1915 to August 1916, and following these paths means a plunge into the white pastel colours of the Karst in winter, whose pale ochre yellow covers every corner.

Here we can see the trenches of the Austro-Hungarian defensive line emerge, abandoned after the Italian conquest of Gorizia and subsequently used by Italian soldiers. These trenches dug into the ground make us reflect on what happened on these border lands. Inscriptions carved into the rock and cement bring us back to the experience of all the individuals who spent years of their lives among these stones. Then we walk along the slight slopes that lead to the monument to the brigata Napoli, pass the restored trench of quota 86, and arrive at the summit of the Cosich. From here we can admire the sea and the surrounding hills. Witnesses of the Great War, that took place here for three long years.
