The ascent to Monte Cuar offers views spanning the entire region; it is one of the last summits of the Carnic Prealps chain before the Friulian plain. From the panoramic summit you can admire the peaks of the Friulian Dolomites to the west, the Verzegnis and Carnic ranges to the north, then turning your gaze eastwards gradually meeting the Julian Alps and the Prealps with Monte San Simeone overlooking Lake Cavazzo and Cuarnan overlooking Gemona along with Chiampon and Plauris. To the south you can admire the beauty of the Friulian plain preceded by the gentle shapes of the moraine hills and the view extends to the sea.
The statue of the Madonna towers over the summit and welcomes visitors with its majestic presence. Next to it is the summit book, where hikers can leave a message or dedication. Not far away, the bell dedicated to the victims of the Friuli earthquake rings in the wind, commemorating those who lost their lives in that tragic event.
In the surrounding area, you can still see traces of military communication routes, meant as a fallback defensive line on the plateau between Monte Cuar and Monte Flagjel. These silent roads are witnesses of a tumultuous past and defensive strategies that now rest peacefully together with the surrounding nature.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
Hiking is not recommended in uncertain weather (the upper part is exposed to lightning and the steep terrain can become very slippery with rain).
In case of icy terrain, use the correct equipment.
Along the loop there are no water sources; on particularly hot days consider carrying a sufficient amount of water.
