Pozzuolo del Friuli
The toponym derives from the Latin word jutens and refers to a well built in the town by Julius Caesar.
The name of Pozzuolo del Friuli is also linked to heroic deeds of the World wars: the charge of the light cavalrymen of Genoa and of the lancers of Novara (30th October 1917) and the epic deeds of the Italian Alpine troops in Russia (1942-43).
Crossed by the Cormòr stream, it extends on a central area of the high plain of Friuli and, besides the main town, it comprises the hamlets of Cargnacco, Carpeneto, Sammardenchia, Terenzano and Zugliano.
The Ostrich Festival in Pozzuolo del Friuli usually takes place between July and August to taste the specialities based on ostrich, rigorously from Friuli.
The hamlet of Terenzano features one of the most important speedway tracks on an international level.
The Historical Museum in the hamlet of Cargnacco is very interesting: it is housed in the former church of Cargnacco and displays evidence of the dramatic Russian campaign of the Second World War. It displays mementos, photographs, letters, documents, publications, uniforms, arms and other objects related to the military operations on the eastern front between 1941 and 1943, as well as to the battles, the imprisonment, the repatriation of the dead.
