Final destination of the "Walk of Peace," Trieste is a border city with a centuries-old history. Already known as Tergeste during the Roman period, it experienced significant growth under Charles VI and Maria Theresa of Austria, when it was declared a Free Port. This gave the city considerable economic importance. Despite battles on the Karst front, the Italian army would not reach the city before November 3, 1918, near the end of the conflict. Nonetheless, within the city, along its gulf as well as moving away from the sea, it is possible to confront places, monuments, and museums that once again bear the imprint of memory.

    Author’s recommendation

The War for Peace Museum "Diego de Henriquez", dedicated to the two world wars and located on Cumano street, is worth a detour and a visit.

It is recommended to continue to the Audace pier, in front of Piazza Unità, where the namesake destroyer docked on November 3, 1918, marking the annexation of the city to the Italian territory.
