Description
Exhibition by Russian-born artist Nina Stoupina opening in her studio in Trieste on Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00 pm. Critical presentation by Franco Rosso - Performance by the artist "Words and Sounds" - Poetry Slam performance by Mariana Pavanello. "Stoupina's expressive language," Franco Rosso writes in his introduction, "is the result of the influence of the Russian avant-garde and the literature of Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Nabokov: a mix that becomes a combination of abstract and figurative images that start from realism and connect to the conceptual. The inspirational ideas come from everyday life, from a war, as well as from rereading some of her letters to her mother, always aiming for a deep understanding of the subject, to give life to intense and chromatically strong visualizations. Nina's passion for detail also emerges, primarily in the choice of materials for the various executions (rice paper, tissue paper, cardboard, canvas, photographic paper, wax, etc.), materials that become mediums to arrive at oil on canvas, artist's books made on wood, collages as a particular variant for the recovery of the image. The painted surfaces become a territory in which to host memories, memory, through an image, going beyond mental boundaries, surpassing one's own ego. Always - for artists Russians - the process of legitimizing one's artistic identity within the European system is a long one, requiring self-reflection and a constant search for techniques, materials, means, and tools for expression. Nina Stoupina, who embraces the tradition of art history in her work, does not slip into nostalgia, but rather reinvents languages, creating her own eurhythmic order: calm, harmonious, balanced, serene yet disruptive, never straying too far from the visible, yet never getting too close to it. A seductive painting, which always adds experimentation and research to formal rigor, which draws on a passion for art history to write its own narrative, where even the memory of difficulties, mistakes, and stumbles becomes a memory, a stage to be overcome, thanks also to the love of art.
