With your back to the view of the Friulian Dolomites, we locate the signs for trail 211/Casera Tartoi, which we take heading east. After about an hour we reach the Casera Tartoi Alpine Hut (1711 m). Continue by taking the service road of the hut, which descends in front of it. After 2 km on the left, a well-marked path branches uphill (1545 m, sign "Malga Tragonia"). We thus reach the service road of Malga Tragonia, which we take gently uphill until reaching the hut (1760 m). To complete the loop, we descend a few meters along the just-travelled access road and take the left turn (sign), which leads us across a meadow and a small bridge and brings us onto another path (trail 209). At the first junction we take the right, downhill; we reach Casera del Aip (1598 m) and from here descend to the Town Square of Forni di Sopra, from where in about 10 minutes we return to the Varmost chairlift parking lot to retrieve the car.

    Author’s recommendation

The route can be combined with the Varmost-Casera Lavazeit path, which has a single steep point (but not difficult or exposed).
