Loop hike towards the Rifugio Policreti, which gave its name to the famous trail. Nature blends with the historical context of the area, rich in elements bearing witness to the past.
The loop starts at the Piancavallo Infopoint. From the entrance roundabout at Piancavallo, take Via del Cansiglio on a slight ascent. Follow Via dei Rododendri for a short stretch to the right, then turn left onto Via dei Ciclamini, passing through the lovely houses of the village.
At the end of the road, CAI 994 heads right and 990 to the left. Continue first on trail 994 along a short forest road, then enter the woods. Descending, you reach the border between the municipalities of Aviano and Budoia. Cross the Piancavallo-Cansiglio ridge and follow the markings indicating the first connection between CAI 994 and 990. Follow the connector descending through the splendid beech forest, soon reaching trail CAI 990. Take the Sentiero Policreti, CAI990a, towards Castaldia. When you reach the paved road from Aviano to Piancavallo, continue 100 meters to the right to resume the trail on the left, going slightly uphill to Casera Castaldia.
Continue left on a gentle ascent to Casera Collalt. Before re-entering the woods, you can enjoy the spectacular view of the plain. From the shelter, continue with minor ups and downs along the route. On Via degli Alpini, on the remains of the Rifugio Policreti destroyed by the occupiers at the end of the Second World War, stands the namesake and current small church. Return to the starting point via Via Collalto.

The Sentiero Policreti takes its name from the first shelter that the community of mountain enthusiasts from Pordenone established, which was the Rifugio Policreti. In 1925, the newly established CAI section of Pordenone set up this casera to accommodate the first ski enthusiasts who reached Piancavallo by bicycle up to Dardago and from there on foot along the mule track.
