Very panoramic hiking route that develops along the ridge of Monte Rest, straddling the Carnic Prealps, between the Meduna Valley and the Tagliamento Valley
A recommended hike for walkers with moderate fitness that leads to the summit of Monte Rest from the homonymous pass in an easy manner. The first part of the route runs along the dirt road to Casera Rest, a building used as a bivouac, located at an altitude of 1500m in a large pasture at the edge of beech and mountain pine woods. From the hut, the trail follows a clear path (CAI 826) ascending obliquely the upper meadows up to the ridge at 1610m. From there, the direct CAI trail to the nearby Forca Separeit is abandoned to follow the wide crest above. The summit is not far, marked by regional civil protection infrastructure.
After passing a panoramic bench near an old watering trough, with a final steeper stretch, you reach the mountain's peak at 1780m.
The descent is made on the same path as the ascent.
It is better to avoid hiking during the central hours of summer days due to excessive heat. The Rest hut can be used as an emergency bivouac
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
Along the route, there are no drinking water springs.
The trail is always evident and well marked.
Rest Pass, the starting point of the hike, is not reachable in winter due to the closure of S.R. 552. The opening period (indicative and to be checked annually with ANAS) is usually from April to November.
The starting point identifiable at Rest Pass is reachable from the Meduna Valley (south) via the S.R.552 from the towns of Tramonti di Sotto and Sopra continuing towards Rest Pass.
From the Tagliamento Valley (north), travel along the SS52 to the town of Mediis, shortly beyond turn left onto the road that goes into the village of Priuso and from there towards the locality of Caprizzi, continue for a few kilometers up to Rest Pass.
